Studium der Geschichte und Germanistik in München und Princeton (USA). Promotion an der Universität München. Ausbildung zum Archivar an der Archivschule Marburg und am Sächsischen Staatsarchiv Dresden. Archivar am Deutschen Historischen Institut in Rom, Archivleiter an der Leopoldina (Deutsche Nationale Akademie der Wissenschaften). Seit Herbst 2007 Stellvertretender Direktor in der Abteilung Archiv beim Bundesbeauftragten für die Unterlagen des Staatssicherheitsdienstes der ehemaligen Deutschen Demokratischen Republik.

Studied in Munich and Princeton (USA), and received a PhD from the University of Munich in 2004. Jedlitschka completed his archival education at the Institute for Archival Sciences Marburg and the Saxonian State Archives Dresden. He worked as an archivist at the German Historical Institute in Rome, served as head of archives at the German National Academy of Sciences at Leopoldina, and, since fall 2007, has been the deputy director of the Department of Archives at the Federal Commissioner for the Records of the State Security Service of the former German Democratic Republic (BStU) – The Stasi Records Office.
