Stephan Makowski was born in Germany in 1983 and studied Medieval and Renaissance Studies at the University of Bochum.
Before studying he had absolved an apprenticeship as an IT-specialist.

After his time at university, he became project manager of a digitalization project, funded by the DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft). During this project, he created a tool for generating METS/MODS files for displaying digitized archival material on the internet. The tool is Freeware, currently still in use and will be maintained about the next years.
