PhDr. Karel Maráz, Ph.D. was born on 16 August 1971 in Brno. From 1985 to 1989 he studied at the Grammar school in Mikulov, from 1989 to 1994 at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University, fields of study: History and Archival Science (Master’s degree, 1994).

His postgraduate studies took place at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University from 1994 to 2002, where he majored in Auxiliary Sciences Historical, specialising in sigillography (Ph.D. degree, 2002). He also completed his Pral doctorate examination (PhDr.) at the same faculty in 2003.

He worked as an archivist at the Moravian Land Archive in Brno from 1994 to 1996, as a scientist at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University, Institute of Auxiliary Sciences of History and Archival Science from 1996 to 2015.

Since 2015, he has worked for National Conservation Office, T. O. in Kroměříž and he has been lecturing at the Department of Auxiliary Historical Sciences and Archive Studies of Charles University in Prag (focusing medieval sigillography).
